CAMP DIRECTOR

Charlie Woodcock
Charlie Woodcock has been directing Triathlon Camps in Solvang since 2004. The first camp started with a gathering of like minded athletes who wanted to explore the Solvang area. These camps have now grown into fully supported training weeks allowing many athletes of all levels the chance to 'train like a pro' with the support team and coaches that Charlie has put together.

A British native, her passion for competing and sporting events grew at a young age, when she won her first running race at the age of ten. As a teenager she competed in athletics and equestrian events which led to her first taste of multi-sport competition, Modern Pentathlon. This event, which is deemed to be a logistical and training juggling act, is something which Charlie thrived upon. She went onto compete for the Junior British Modern Pentathlon Team whilst obtaining a Sports Degree and Post Graduate Teaching Certificate from Bedford College in the UK. Shortly thereafter whilst teaching in the UK, she added some cycling training to her regime and consequently Triathlons. She has competed in many different countries and been a member the British Amateur Triathlon Team on several occasions. In 1999 after being awarded a scholarship from Rotary International to study massage therapy in the USA, Charlie added a national certification in this field to her skills. She continued her passion for sports performance by working as a massage therapist with many athletes from fun runners to Olympians.

With Solvang Triathlon Camps she is now drawing on all her past experiences to provide memorable training weeks for triathletes from all over the world. From coordinating staff and athletes, to massage and driving support, her role as Camp director is a multi-faceted one that she thoroughly enjoys. Who is her idol you may ask? "The mastermind behind the Discovery Team, Johann Bruneel" she says without hesitation, but then continues, "Thankfully, my love for speeding tickets is not as strong as his!"
STAFF ROSTER

COACHES
Listed is our coaching roster over the last two years. Please check the specific camp details for a complete coaching roster for each camp.

Chuckie V
Chuckie is an accomplished endurance athlete who started his athletic career on the USA National team as a cyclist. He took up Triathlon with irrepressible style, sporting a foot-high Mohawk on festive occasions and enjoyed appearing in MTV-style adds for Gatorade in the mid 90's. He got down to business a few years later, with numerous top Ironman finishes around the world including Lanzarote, Wisconsin and Canada. In 1999 he was crowned Ironman Canada winner after an impressive race that came down to the wire.

Chuckie is now passing on his experience, knowledge and love of endurance sports to other athletes through one on one coaching, camps and clinics. His enthusiasm for the outdoors and sports is certainly contagious and he enjoys motivating others to meet new physical challenges. Since retiring from racing, Chuckie still enjoys a very active lifestyle. He has hiked 2655 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail both in 2002 and 2006 and enjoyed many long distance bike trips around the USA. Chuckie has trained in the Solvang area each winter since 2003 and knows the area like the back of his hand!

Michael Lovato
Michael has been involved in the sport of triathlon since 1992, when he participated in the University of Texas Intramural Sprint Triathlon, a grueling event staged entirely on the UT Austin campus. The 900-yard pool swim, 22-lap fifteen mile bike ride, and 3-mile run were such a challenge that Michael was pushed to his limits, and immediately became hooked on the sport.

For the next seven years, Michael traveled all over the world competing in triathlons and duathlons of every distance, from sprint to olympic to half ironman. After completing his first Ironman in Hawaii in 1999, Michael decided to make the switch from amateur athlete to professional racer, and to focus mostly on the long-distance events. Since that time, Michael has finished twenty-two Ironman races, two of which he was able to finish before everyone else: Ironman Coeur d'Alene in 2003 and Ironman Arizona in 2006.

Having completed the Hawaii Ironman nine times, Michael's best finish is ninth place, a feat he has accomplished three times: in 2003, 2007, and 2008. His goals are to continue climbing up the finish results, and to ultimately challenge for a top finish.

Drawing on the experience he has gained from racing at each level from beginner to world class, Michael has enjoyed coaching athletes of all abilities for the past eight years. Based in Boulder, Colorado, Michael travels across the country to serve as an invited coach and speaker for numerous triathlon camps, clubs, and clinics. A Spanish teacher by trade, Michael is very happy to share his knowledge, his stories, and his advice on all things triathlon. And if you are not careful, he may well chose to share his knowledge on other subjects as well, including Spanish.
David Fix
David, a four time Hawaii Ironman veteran, is no stranger to being first out of the water in the many triathlons he has completed. In fact, he's finished in the top 10 after the swim in Hawaii Ironman on three occasions. His coaching career began at his alma mater, ASU, and he also served as a club coach for Scottsdale Aquatics. Today, David's thirst for endurance sports is far from quenched. An active professional, husband, and father of three, David finds a rewarding challenge in balancing his career and family life with continued training as a competitive triathlete. Year after year, he seeks out new goals and challenges for a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle. After a 13-year career in finance, David has taken on his newest challenge - running Endure It! based in Naperville, Chicago. As a USA All American, he hopes to bring his unique experience and training perspective to athletes in the Chicago area interspersed with warm weather training trips to Solvang. "Being a successful, driven athlete doesn't mean sacrificing you're life" he says. "Whatever your goal is, it can be done." The endure it! Solvang Camp in 2010 will be David's fifth training/coaching trip out to Solvang.
Peter Reid
Peter, three time Hawaii Ironman World Champion (and three time runner up) has been the most consistent performer at this prestigious race for the last decade. His talent, dedication and ability to perform when it matters, has resulted in a career which includes ten Ironman wins across the globe. Similarly to Chuckie, Peter set out in the endurance world as a cyclist but swiftly made the move to Triathlons in 1989. A seventeen year career span followed where Peter became King of the Hawaii Pressure cooker on many occasions and has certainly earned himself a spot on the list of the islands greats.

Peter, who retired from life as a pro athlete in 2006, is now challenging his experience and passion for the sport into his coaching domain, PR Peak Performance. His goal is to apply his philosophies to coach other athletes to achieve their sporting dreams. He is also currently enjoying a very active lifestyle. During the spring of 2007 Peter was to be found coaching at a camp in Monaco and training with Axel Merckx and in 2008 he coached at camps in Tucson and Solvang.
