SOLVANG BASE CAMP 2010
February 18-24, 2010

A base miles camp for those wishing to escape the cold and log some scenic, challenging, outdoor miles!

The goal of the Solvang Base Camp is to give athletes the chance to escape the cold and log 'real outdoor' miles in all three disciplines. The emphasis of this camp will be on cycling, but the itinerary also includes swims, runs and a track workout. Pure cyclists and triathletes are welcome. Our coaching staff will be leading the athletes through a week that will include climbs from sea level to 4,000 feet, rides up to 95 miles and scenic winding roads that will give every cyclist/triathlete the perfect winter escape. It's an opportunity to renew motivation for these sports in the dead of winter, provide new training stimuli and challenging rides. Fully supported rides, catered evening meals and wine tasting are all part of the itinerary. This is the no frills camp, all about mileage, a beautiful area, challenging rides, coaching on the road and full support along the way.

The staff at the Meadowlark Inn are happy to pair athletes up for shared accommodation if you so choose. The Meadowlark Inn is located off Highway 246 the main route through the valley and within walking distance of; a quaint but well stocked grocery store, the outdoor swimming pool, the high school all weather track and the YMCA (great if you need an extra swim/weights). Please note that accommodation costs are not included in the camp fee.

    Meals:
An essential part of our week! Breakfast is included with your accommodation price at the Meadowlark Inn. We find it best to leave everyone up to his/her own devices for lunch. We will have an array of snacks and sponsors ride food available in each support vehicle for each cycling group. Typically we are on the road cycling at lunchtime, so lunch is each athlete's responsibility once they arrive back in Solvang after the ride. There is a quaint, but fully stocked grocery store a few minutes walk from our accommodation that has a sushi bar, salad bar, deli where you can sandwiches made to order at any time of the day and a coffee bar with wireless internet. Group dinners (with the exception of the Sunday evening where you are on your own) are part of the camp itinerary and included in your camp fee. These dinners include a wine tasting and dinner at a local winery and a group dinner at a local restaurant. If you have special dietary requirements we will do our best to cater to your needs, as much as the group setting allows.
